For one of my assignments at college I had to design a product folder/info sheet package for a brand’s product range. It was centred around typography and layout so it was kept pretty minimal. I thought it was a pretty good opportunity to do something fun, so I did mine on Puffin Classics. I designed it around the classics book cover design, with the band across the front (you probably know what I’m talking about). One of the main reasons I decided to pick a classic book range was so I had an excuse to draw some fun little drawings… and they look ok in digital form but I personally think they look even more amazing printed.
The project had a maximum of three colours so I used a yellow and black, although I did make the Puffin yellow a yellow-orange for readability. I drew the line drawings in SAI and vectorised them in Illustrator. Overall it was easier than I expected and I was kinda just making up the compositions of the drawings on the fly, however image tracing in Illustrator takes a lot of fiddling around so that equally took up some time as well.
Can you guess which books I chose to do drawings on?
I also printed the entire design project at Officeworks, although they don’t do edge to edge printing (which they really need to get on to). So I had to trim everything myself….but I think it turned out pretty good anyway.
