plant story aims to tell the story of plants, and their journeys through the seasons.
I love succulents, and one of the things that make them so fascinating to me is that they often change drastically with the seasons in colour, shape, and appearance.
I created this site to document my own plants’ journey, and keep track of any notes and tips I learn along the way. This project was a fun exercise in user experience as well, as I rarely dig into timelines or use taxonomies as extensively as I did for this project.
- Design in Figma
- Development using HTML, CSS, and JS
The plant collection loads in using infinite scroll on the front page.
Users can then click through to see each plant’s individual journey through a visual timeline, which supports four post formats – text, video, image gallery, and a hero feature image.
Blog and wish list functionality also makes keeping notes and tabs on items really easy to do especially on the fly.
The menus also make it really easy and convenient to sort and filter the collection.
It’s a subtle feature, but people can also comment on each individual post from the timeline.
Note how they look like little chubby leaves? I love that.
I have the intention of making this theme public for people who might want to document their own collections in the future.
If you want to keep updated on that, feel free to follow me on Github.
